MĀORI NETBALL
Oranga Whānau - Whānau Ora
The purpose of Māori Netball is to promote "oranga whānau - whānau ora" to Māori women and their families using netball as the vehicle.
"Mai i te kōpu o te whaea ki te kōpu o te whenua - From the womb of the mother to the womb of mother earth" - Kahurangi June Mariu, DNZM, QSM, JP
Aotea is currently one of ten Māori netball regions (waka) who promote the aims and aspirations of the Aotearoa Māori Netball Oranga Healthy Lifestyles (AMNOHL) Trust.

AOTEA MĀORI NETBALL
From the inception of the National Māori Netball Tournament in 1988, coordination of Māori netball in the Aotea region was overseen by the Māori Women's Welfare League (MWWL) - Te Wahine Toko i te Ora Aotea Regional Council. Te Rau Poitarawhiti o Aotea was established in 2011 as a branch of the MWWL and continued to coordinate Māori netball in the region through to 2015. Following a lapse in branch membership, volunteers continued to coordinate activities as a stand-alone group through to the end of 2019. In January of 2020, a board of Trustees was formed and Aotea Māori Netball was incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 and are currently seeking registration with the Charities Commission.
